For administrators
Connect rostering and single sign-on
Most districts have nothing to set up. What you do depends on how your staff sign in, and whether you want accounts created before people log in.
How your staff sign in
| Sign-in method | What your district has to do |
|---|---|
| Email and password | Nothing |
| Nothing | |
| ClassLink | Install the Inner Explorer app once |
| Clever | Install the Inner Explorer app once |
| Canvas | Install the Inner Explorer LTI app |
Getting your schools and your team into the platform
New districts send their Inner Explorer partner a CSV listing their schools and the administrator at each one. We set those up for you, and you will find them under the Admin tab.
If your district has used Inner Explorer before, your schools are already there. Open the Admin tab and confirm they are accurate.
From there, administrators invite their educators using the invite link in the Admin tab.
Installing the app: ClassLink and Clever
A district administrator installs the Inner Explorer app once from your ClassLink or Clever dashboard. It applies across the whole district, and only a district administrator can do it.
If Inner Explorer is already installed from a previous year, you do not need to install it again.
Installing the app: Canvas
Only a Canvas administrator can do this. Reach out to our Inner Explorer partner to send you a dynamic registration URL for your district.
-
Create an LTI registration
In Canvas, go to Admin, then Developer Keys. Select + Developer Key, then + LTI Registration. -
Paste your registration URL
Paste the URL your Inner Explorer partner sent you into the form and save. The app installs. -
Copy the client ID
Copy the client ID from the list. -
Open your app settings
Go to Admin, then Settings, then Apps, and select + App. -
Add the app by client ID
Choose By Client Id and paste the client ID you copied. -
Choose where teachers will see the app
Courses is the Canvas default.
Canvas requires this install even if your district has used Inner Explorer before.
Rostering is optional
Rostering lets us create accounts before anyone signs in, so staff can sign in without waiting for an invitation. To enable rostering, provide your Inner Explorer contact with a CSV file of your roster. It is available with ClassLink and Clever, and Clever requires a Clever license.
Without rostering, single sign-on still works. The first time someone signs in, they are added as a teacher.
Rostering creates staff accounts. Classrooms are still set up by each educator.
Who invites whom
Inner Explorer invites your district administrators. District administrators invite school administrators. District and school administrators both invite teachers.
District administrators can also generate a join link for teachers to use instead of an invitation.
